The Range Rover was all-new for 2013 with an aluminium body and greatly reduced weight. For 2014 it gets a 340 hp supercharged V6 in place of the old 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 and keeps the supercharged V8 that makes 510 hp but has changes to improve mileage. LED headlights are now standard across the line and there are some other option changes. The full-size Luxury SUV Range Rover is imposing, impeccably finished inside and out, and drives very well for its size. It's not as sporty as the Porsche Cayenne, but it's not supposed to be. It has better off-road performance and luxury than the Mercedes GL, BMW X5 or Audi Q7. Mid year Range Rovers gain parking exit and perpendicular parking features added to the existing parallel park feature.
V6 models come in standard Range Rover and HSE trims, in short-wheel base. The V8 Supercharged and Autobiography trims are available in short and long-wheelbase. All get an eight-speed automatic with low range transfer case, start/stop, air suspension with variable ride height, hill descent control, and terrain response. Base Range Rover trim has a heated front windshield, water repelling front door glass, rain sensing wipers, and automatic xenon lights. Inside there are eight-way power adjustable and heated (for the front) leather seats. The steering wheel is heated as well and there is three-zone climate control. Infotainment is via an 8.0-inch touch screen with a 380-watt Meridian audio system. Navigation includes off-road function. Parking assist that covers parallel and perpendicular parking is optional, as are blind spot monitoring, adaptive headlights and surround camera. Adaptive cruise and soft close doors are optional on Range Rover through Supercharged trims (standard on Autobiography), as is an upgraded 825-watt Meridian sound system. A wide range of leather and wood trim choices are available on all trims.
HSE trim adds a panoramic sunroof with blind, as well as 20-inch wheels. The seat leather is upgraded, and the front pair is 12-way adjustable. Sun visors also have two blades instead of one, for increased sun visoring. A comfort pack including passenger seat memory, ventilated and massage seats with adjustable bolsters and a cooler compartment is available as is a comfort pack with front and rear ventilated seats, front massage seats, and four-way climate control.
Supercharged adds the Supercharged V8 as well as fog lights and 21-inch wheels. It is available in short and long wheelbase and has the same option packages as HSE.
Autobiography adds the V8 and a unique grille, badges, and light-up sill plates. The rear glass is laminated for sound insulation. There are automatic high beams and LED signature lighting with washers for the headlights. Interior leather is again upgraded with 18-way power adjustable front seats with massage and ventilation. A cooler compartment is also standard. There is adaptive cruise control with stop and go traffic capability, a surround view camera, and parking assist. The sound system has been upgraded to a Meridian 3D surround 1700-watt system. The rear passenger area can be optioned to have Executive Class seats with splits the bench into two bucket seats with center console. They also gain massage and power recline. More interior finishes are also available on Autobiography.
The V6 Range Rovers are rated for 14.1 L/100 km city and 10.1 L/100 km highway. The V8 models return 17.2/12.5 for short and 18.0/12.2 for long wheel base models.
